What is Strength & Conditioning?

Strength & conditioning (S&C) refers to a collection of training and recovery modalities utilized to enhance the physical qualities, robustness and preparedness of athletes.

Goals of our S&C program:

  1. Reduce risk of injury by preparing athletes for the stress of their sport and teaching proper movement mechanics.

  2. Maximize the genetic potential of each athlete through the development of physical qualities that can have a positive transfer to their sport specific skills.

Physical qualities such as strength, power, speed, endurance, coordination, balance, mobility and flexibility are important physical qualities that form the building blocks of our S&C programs. Their development and maintenance during proper time frames help to bolster our athletes’ ability to train for their sport and perform at the most critical times.

S&C draws upon scientific evidence, biological principles, and biomechanics to provide an appropriate training stimulus in order to elicit the desired sport relevant physiological adaptations. Using careful exercise selection and progressive overload, any exercise that is used will be coached to a high degree of technical proficiency to ensure the highest rate of adaptation from the selected exercises.

The growth of sport science and technology has allowed for increased athlete monitoring, evaluation and assessment. This has increased the efficacy of our S&C interventions – allowing for a more precise approach to training and performance through tailored S&C programs.

S&C is used at all times of the athlete’s season and all stages of development. In the event that injury does occur on the field of play, S&C plays a pivotal role in the rehabilitation from injury and return to performance continuum.
